Policy for Posting Printed Materials on ̫ӳ Property
I. Purpose
Postings of printed materials can serve different purposes, such as promoting an event or expressing opinions. This policy establishes guidelines for any ̫ӳ community member to post printed materials on ̫ӳ property. This policy is content neutral and is not intended to regulate free speech.
II. Scope
This policy is intended for ̫ӳ students, faculty, and staff. It includes signs, posters, brochures, programs, banners, and flyers. Students promoting for registered student organizations should defer to the Office of Student Experience's (OSE) Advertising webpage.
III. Definitions
Campus Designated Locations: Cork bulletin boards across campus are the designated locations for printed materials. Faculty and staff may post on bulletin boards outside their office, on their office doors and windows and are exempt of the restrictions outlined in this policy as it is understood that they clean up their areas regularly. The same applies to Academic Departments and ̫ӳ Offices such as the Library, CREI, Residential Life, the Dining Hall, and Bon Appetit to mention a few, or to the bulletin boards and doors of student dorms. Offices, Departments and Centers also sometimes use plastic sleeves to identify locations and schedules, which are also permitted under this policy.
Unapproved Locations: Anything beyond a designated location such as (but not limited to) glass doors and windows (including windshields); walls, rocks and stonework, poles, trees, paint or white boards, parking lots, directional, and locational or traffic signage.
IV. Procedures
- All printed materials should contain the full name of a student, student organization, individual faculty or staff or an office/department identifier. Student postings should also contain a posting date, and the ̫ӳ email address of the individual, or group that is posting it. This information should enable any member of the ̫ӳ community to contact the sponsors promptly.
- Printed materials to be posted may not be larger than 11” x 17”.
- Individuals, groups and offices/departments should post one printed material item per bulletin board.
- Individuals, groups or offices/departments should not remove or cover existing postings from bulletin boards unless the postings have not been taken down after 2 weeks or within 48 hours from the end of the event.
- Printed materials may become a burden for the Facility Management Services (FMS) employees
who are tasked with the important duty of maintaining our beautiful campus. Individuals,
groups or offices/departments should be mindful of the work of FMS employees and:
- Not deface college property with paint, markers, stickers, or other substances that might be difficult to remove.
- Not use duct-tape nor permanent sticking materials, only push pins, putty, or masking tape.
- Remove printed materials after 2 weeks of posting or within 48 hours after the event (individuals, groups or offices/departments may repost if necessary).
- Not post on lawns or paths so as not to disturb lawn mowing and cleaning efforts.
- ̫ӳ Offices are allowed to use table tents to advertise events as they will remove them at the end of the event or the day.
- Offices such as Title IX and the Wellness Center are allowed to post on bathroom stalls and will monitor/remove their postings regularly.
- If individual students or non-registered student groups desire to organize tabling activities, they need to send an email to inclusion@goucher.edu. The email should include: (1) student’s name, ID and ̫ӳ email; (2) date of the event request; (3) location (Athenaeum-outside or lobby, Mary Fisher Lobby, Van Meter Highway, Welsh Patio); (4) start and end time; (5) set up and clean up time; (6) purpose for tabling; and (7) number of tables and chairs needed.
- Printed materials should not be left unattended and must be cleaned-up after any tabling activity is conducted.
- To reserve a space, student clubs and organizations must submit the proper request form. See How to Reserve a Space for more details. Individual students and non-registered groups may ask the assistance of a faculty or staff sponsor, to reserve a space. ̫ӳ Offices must reserve a space directly with Events and Conference Services (ECS) at events@goucher.edu.
V. Compliance
- Any printed materials that have not been removed after two weeks or within 48 hours of the end of the event will be removed by FMS; the responsible party may be sanctioned through the Student Code of Conduct, the Provost Office or HR.
- Any printed materials that do not abide by this or other ̫ӳ policies may be reported to inclusion@goucher.edu and removed by FMS. The responsible party may be sanctioned through the Student Code of Conduct, the Provost Office or HR.
