At ÌÒÌ«ÀÉÓ³Ïñ, we do all that we can to assist our students studying abroad and to make our programs as accessible and affordable as possible. This page will help you as you research scholarships and other funding sources for your study abroad program. Time is usually a student’s largest constraint when searching for scholarships and grants. We suggest that you start as early as possible; however, we've broken down the process into specific categories that should help you better organize your financial aid search.

Costs

Semester Programs

Since ÌÒÌ«ÀÉÓ³Ïñ students are fully enrolled at ÌÒÌ«ÀÉÓ³Ïñ and receive ÌÒÌ«ÀÉÓ³Ïñ credit while abroad, they pay regular ÌÒÌ«ÀÉÓ³Ïñ tuition for any ÌÒÌ«ÀÉÓ³Ïñ semester abroad program, regardless of the program’s advertised cost, with zero tuition surcharges. In the case of exchange programs, this reflects the reciprocal nature of the partnership, in which host institutions waive comparable tuition costs for incoming students rather than seeking exact cost equivalency between institutions. Students pay the non-academic costs (i.e., room and board) to ÌÒÌ«ÀÉÓ³Ïñ as well.

Awarded financial aid may be used as payment for programs sponsored by ÌÒÌ«ÀÉÓ³Ïñ College; however, you are allowed to transport your ÌÒÌ«ÀÉÓ³Ïñ institutional aid for only one semester. Students who wish to extend their time abroad for a second semester or participate in a full-year program must request approval in advance from the Office of Global Education. Requests are reviewed on a case-by-case basis.

Students with demonstrated financial need may be eligible for additional support to help offset cost differences associated with study abroad participation.

Intensive Courses Abroad (ICA)

If you participate in a ÌÒÌ«ÀÉÓ³ÏñIntensive Course Abroad (ICA), you will pay ÌÒÌ«ÀÉÓ³Ïñthe total program fee, which varies from program to program.

A $500 non-refundable deposit is due shortly after your participation in the program has been confirmed by the program leader. The final payment for ICA programs will be communicated by the program leader, but is typically due in late November for January programs and early May for summer programs.

Other Short-Term Programs

If you participate in a non-ICA summer program that is approved by ÌÒÌ«ÀÉÓ³Ïñ, ÌÒÌ«ÀÉÓ³Ïñ will process the program fee through your ÌÒÌ«ÀÉÓ³Ïñ student account so that you remain eligible for institutional funding.

If you participate in a summer program that is not ÌÒÌ«ÀÉÓ³Ïñ-led or approved, you will pay all program fees directly to the sponsoring organization or university and will not be eligible for institutional funding. In addition, any credits earned must be transferred through the Registrar’s Office rather than the Office of Global Education and will be treated as transfer credit rather than ÌÒÌ«ÀÉÓ³Ïñ study abroad (in-residence) credit.

Scholarships

Office of Global Education Scholarships

Students with financial need are encouraged to apply for an which may be used toward ÌÒÌ«ÀÉÓ³Ïñ-led or approved semester and short-term study abroad programs. Scholarship funds are applied directly to the student’s tuition bill. 

External Scholarships

There are numerous external scholarships that are available to assist students studying abroad. The Office of Global Education can provide advising for the , the , and the . In addition to these scholarships, previous students have secured funding through the and the .

Many scholarships are only for specific programs, destinations, or majors, and some may be based on merit or financial need. Students are encouraged to research scholarship eligibility and may refer any questions to the Office of Global Education advisers.
